My story

[p]Dear all,[/p][p]Three of us, James Bownass, Paul Williams, and Damien Williams, are in the planning stages of a charity challenge. This challenge will be entirely self funded, and 100% of all donations will be going to the charity. [/p][p]In April 2017, a very good friend of ours sadly passed away after contracting Meningitis. [/p][p]Andrew ‘Pud’ Jones was 36 years old when he was sadly taken from us, leaving a hole in many people’s lives.[/p][p]Andrew was always there to help out whenever he could, and would stop at nothing to help a friend in need. He was a cracking lad, and above all an excellent friend.[/p][p]From an early age, Andrew loved his motorbikes. He had already completed a trip to Normandy and was planning on touring Europe later in 2017.[/p][p]In his memory, and as fellow bikers, we are in planning stages of a charity challenge to raise awareness and much needed funds for Meningitis Now.[/p][p]Meningitis Now is a national charity based in the United Kingdom. It was formed following a merger between the charities The Meningitis Trust and Meningitis UK in 2013. Meningitis Now is working towards a future where no one in the UK dies from meningitis and everyone affected gets the support they need.[/p][p] [/p][p]The challenge, although slightly ambitious, will be for the three of us to travel through no less than ten countries in ten days, on older enduro/dual sport style motorcycles. As mentioned, the trip is entirely self funded. We are meeting all associated costs personally including fuel, food, accommodation, flights/ferries, visas, insurances, and any other cost involved. It's slightly disheartening to think that some people think we are doing this for a cheap holiday, but those who know us will know the planning and costs involved, and the effort that is being put in. [/p][p]We aim to start in Romania, and cover several Eastern European countries before finishing in Rotterdam.[/p][p]Some of the countries we aim to visit are: Romania, Ukraine, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Czech Rep, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, and Holland.[/p][p]Yes, the observant amongst you will have realised that there are more than ten countries on our list; this is down to time restraints and visas, and the possibility of having to alter our route.[/p][p]Each country will be well documented, and we intend on visiting unusual local landmarks.[/p][p]For those of you who are glued to social media, we have set up, and will be endeavouring to update our social media sites (follow link) from start to finish, including the trial runs, bike prep, repairs, training, and actual days in Europe. [/p][p] [/p][p]Any support, and any donations to Meningitis Now would be gratefully appreciated. [/p][p][br][/p]
