My story

[p]The Yukon 1000 is the world's longest canoe race; it is a totally self-supported 1000km paddle from Canada into the Alaskan backcountry, finishing in the Arctic Circle. [/p][p]I will be attempting to complete this grueling race with my crew mate Tom Redon, navigating our way through the total isolation of the Alaskan wilderness, relying only on each other. This is a race without safety blankets or back ups; there is no one else to follow.[/p][p]You can take a look at our planned route here to see how we are planning to break it down: https://www.plotaroute.com/route/637252[/p][p]Those of you who know us know we are spontaneous adventure seekers who, following children, are going through a mini mid-life crisis, constantly looking for ways to show we still have 'it'; whatever 'it' is! This once in a life time opportunity will test us to the limit, pushing ourselves a considerable distance outside our comfort zones and challenging us mentally and physically. Completing the race will give us huge personal reward, as well as helping raise awareness and money for two great causes.[/p][p]Build Africa believe in the power of education to help end poverty in rural Africa. They work to give children the education they need and fight the inequalities that stand in their way.[/p][p]Care for Casualties supports our Riflemen, our wounded, and the families of those who have been killed in action, providing them with the comfort and support they need now and in the future.[/p]
