My story

[p]‘Run To Pegasus’ is an epic endurance run to form part of the events commemorating the 75th anniversary of D-Day on 6th June 1944. Running 75 miles from Tarrant Rushton in Dorset where the gliders took to the sky in the evening of the 5th of June 1944, before landing at Pegasus Bridge in Normandy as part of the coup de main operation to hold the bridges on D-Day itself. [/p][p]Seeing as we can’t run all the way, our route encompasses, 62 miles overnight in one go from the airfield at Tarrant Rushton in Dorset to Portsmouth and the ferry to France. The next day a further a further half marathon in two stages, three miles to the bridge from the port, and then the final ten miles from the cemetery at the River Dives to Pegasus Bridge itself. 75 running miles in total.[/p][p]This event is to part of the events commemorating the heroes of yesteryear from the D-Day operation, but is being done with a current purpose to raise some money and awareness for the veteran charity for the heroes of today.[/p]

24 Dakotas flew over Trials Field this afternoon, on their way to Normandy. They reminded me of the courage of the pilots, parachutists and all those who landed 75 years ago, and of your own epic endeavour and tribute. Hope it has all gone well. Ashley
