My story

[p]As a former soldier I’ve seen the debilitating affects poor mental health has had on friends and colleagues. But to talk only about this aspect is to do little more than scratch the surface. There are numerous forms of mental illness: from severe OCD, to the depression many people unknowingly suffer.[/p][p]Wiping out this affliction will never be an option, but making others aware and building support systems that enable sufferers to lead normal lives is achievable. And we will achieve our aims.[/p][p]With these thoughts in mind, here’s the details of my journey:[/p][p]In 2021 I will attempt a full distance, solo, unsupported and unaided ski to the South Pole. Nothing like going big. Start date will be November 2021. The total distance is about 718 miles and one I'm aiming to complete in about 35 days (there, said it so now there's no going back on the timeframe).[/p][p]During the journey I will be creating a video journal that highlights the impact of isolation, a feeling experience by many afflicted with mental health issues. The intense pressure of living and working alone for so long in an environment which, at its very heart, is devoid of life will be documented as part of a research programme intended to help others understand the lives of those who suffer day in and day out.[/p]
