My story

[p]90 year old Jan Collins with stage 4 prostate cancer kicked off his Garden Golf Challenge last week to raise money for Marie Curie and the STV Children’s Appeal. Jan set a target of 1000 holes Golf in his garden by his 91st birthday on June 10th but has now decided to bring the date forward to 28th May when Scottish golf courses reopen. He is playing golf all day til 9pm with a power nap after lunch to conserve his energy. GolPhin, who make kids golf clubs and organise school golf programmes have designed and set up a golf course in his garden with 5 holes of 40 yards each. [/p][p]Track his progress here.[/p][p]Jan said ‘I am delighted to be playing golf again during lockdown and doing it in a way to raise funds to help people who are suffering such hardship from Coronavirus particularly those suffering from terminal illnesses and children living in poverty.’[/p][p]With the cancellation of social fund-raising events and closure of shops, Marie Curie need funding more than ever to provide vital care to people with terminal illnesses. The STV Childrens Appeal is raising critical funds to help children living in poverty who have been hit worst than others by the Coronavirus crisis.[/p][p]Jan was diagnosed with Stage 4 prostate cancer in August 2015 and is still undergoing treatment. He is a keen golfer and a member of Prestwick, Royal Troon, and Turnberry golf clubs. He is a trustee of the Scottish Junior Sports and Heath Trust and raised over £80,000 for them last summer by organising the Ayrshire Grand Golf Ball at Trump Turnberry. Jan has also been a keen tennis player and won the 85 and over Seniors Wimbledon Championship in 2014.[/p][p][br][/p]
