My story

[p]In September this year, I am taking on an Alpine Challenge -- walking for three days in the Alps to the Pointe Noir de Parmemaz at 7500 ft (twice the height of Ben Nevis) to raise vital funds for Child Bereavement UK. [/p][p]This charity is close to my heart. As a mother, I can't think of anything more horrific than losing a child. When I was 17, my best friend and piano duet partner Rachel died suddenly from a brain haemorrhage. I remember the complete disbelief and shock when my mother told me. Her parents - Judith and Michael - have been amazing and still remember my birthday which is just a few days before Rachel's. I've kept in touch with them, but often feel that there is more I could have done. [/p][p]I dedicate this challenge to Rachel. [/p][p]I've taken on this challenge to support Child Bereavement UK at a time when I'm trying to reshape my own life following a stressful period at work which left me no energy to keep myself fit and well or think about helping others. Working towards this has given me a renewed sense of perspective and purpose. It’s a privilege to be part of something that will make a difference to people whose lives have been devastated by loss. [/p][p]Child Bereavement UK is a national charity that supports bereaved families and children across the UK as well as provide much needed support for professionals that deal with bereavement on a day-to-day basis. [/p][p]For more information about the work they do and where the money you donate goes, please have a look at their website www.childbeareavementuk.org [/p][p]Please see below for a video from Child Bereavement UK which explains more about their work.[/p][p]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRkKOaMdRBw[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p] [/p]
