My story

[p]12 years ago, my lovely Kirsten was diagnosed with an acoustic neuroma that required invasive surgery. To cut a very long and traumatic story short, Kirsten came through it. However, a small tumour was found 5 years ago and Kirsten had radiotherapy this year to halt its growth. It will take a while to know how successful it has been, but Kirsten has thrown herself at life throughout this time, doing several stamina events like a triathlon, a half marathon and the London Marathon 2018. She raised an astonishing £4600 for Brain Research and now it is my turn to try and add to the work they can do.[/p][p]After the first operation, Kirsten was left deaf in one ear, with tinnitus and a need for lots of physio to get partial facial muscle operation back. My understanding is that, if the same operation was carried out today, it is possible that neither the deafness or the muscular issues would be such a problem. During the run up to the radiosurgery this year, we went to the hospital several times. The science and knowledge and, frankly, magic, is enough to make your jaw drop. It is just astonishing and life-saving and life-changing advances are made every year but, to make these advances, organisations need our help. [/p][p]I have had a dodgy knee since I was 13. It has caused me no end of grief, pain and anger. I cant imagine going through what Kirsten and many others have been through. Brain Research UK do amazing work to help thousands of people every year and to improve future outcomes for thousands more. Go on, give them a few bob.[/p]
