My story

[p]Hi guys and thank you for visiting my page.[/p][p]On 26th April 2020, along with 1 or 2 others, I'll be attempting to put one foot in front of the other continuously for approximately 42.194988km or 26.2 miles at the VM2020 London Marathon. You know the feeling, you watch it every year and think, "It looks amazing, I wish I was doing it." [/p][p]Well guess what? It's time to show up sunshine. [/p][p]I am taking on this challenge on behalf of the British Gymnastics Foundation who transform lives across the UK through gymnastics with a number of projects including the Love to Move initiative, an age and dementia friendly seated gymnastics programme affecting people with all forms of dementia including the most common Alzheimers Disease; the Schools project by delivering gymnastics programmes to help students realise their full potential through sport; the Community project working with organisations and individuals across the UK making a positive impact in their communities; the Hardship project supporting families experiencing financial difficulties and the Disability project working with disabled people through the delivery of bespoke gymnastics programmes.[/p][p]So why me, why now and why gymnastics? [/p][p]Well, I was kind of making my way through life, minding my own business living one day at a time when in my mid 40's I woke up and realised that something was missing, and it wasn't the extra tyre I was carrying around my waist. And things started from there. 4 years ago, I finally saw what I'd been staring at for the best part of 25 years, that gymnastics was the answer. A few life changes later, and here I am, living the dream at The Academy of Gymnastics and the living epitome of Mark Twain's "find a job you love doing and you'll never work a day in your life". Gymnastics is my life. Every day in every week, whether that's coaching forward rolls to 4 year olds in our Rec programme to delivering a cardio or S&C programme to our Academy Angels.[/p][p]And why now?[/p][p]This is the 6th year I have applied to run London, each year with a negative response. But maybe there was a reason for that. [/p][p]26 years ago I lost my dad. He was 52, the age I am now. And as long as I'm spared, I'll stay this age until the 27th April 2020, the day after London. [/p][p]Also, 18months ago, my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimers Disease. Right now she is doing well, she knows she has the condition and she's fighting back. So, while I still can, I will do whatever I can to raise awareness of dementia illnesses and to support families across the UK living with this every day of their lives. [/p][p]Maybe 2020 was just meant to be.[/p][p]Thank you for reading this and thank you for your donation.[/p][p]Jeff x[/p]
