[p] Last year I took up sea swimming. It took all of my 41 years to be brave enough to face a swim in the sea, despite being an average-ish Masters swimmer. It took this long due to a childhood fear developed from watching Jaws. Some people laugh when I tell them this, others nod in understanding. Whatever, your stance is on this, it was a legitimate fear. Last year I decided to face that fear. I live in Pembrokeshire, West Wales. I am surrounded by sea. My husband surfs. Maya, my seven year old, is learning to surf. Gwennan, my four year old, is learning to run in and out of the sea repeatedly. I needed to get beyond knee deep.[/p][p]I have decided to do 3 Big Swims in 2018 for Bliss, a charity which raises money for babies born prematurely or sick. This is a charity which is close to my heart, Maya was born 10 weeks early weighing 2lb 15 oz, Gwennan was born 8 weeks early weighing just under 4lb. Both journeys were difficult and challenging and I would like to give something back for the care and support I received during this time.[/p][p]Here are my 3 Big Swims:[/p][p] Swim number one:[/p][p] I have signed up for the Tenby Long Course 1.2 miles swim. I have practised this swim with the group ‘Swim Pembrokeshire’, so I know I can do this. However, this swim did involve dodging very large jelly fish. It is also a very popular event and I may well get mown down before even entering the sea.[/p][p] http://thewalesswim.com/[/p][p] Swim number two:[/p][p] My sister in law is a fantastic open water swimmer who is sponsored by Aqua Sphere. She managed to get me a free space to swim the Snowman 1 mile swim in Snowdonia. So this is NOT a sea swim, but a lake swim. No sharks here, but slightly concerned by the fact I had to say which country I was swimming for. Eek, out of my depth?[/p][p] http://alwaysaimhighevents.com/snowman-triathlon/snowman-swim[/p][p] Swim number three:[/p][p] This is the last and most epic of the swims. This swim is 2.5 miles from Caldey Island to Tenby. I have not actually swum 2.5 miles in one go in my life. This could be a rather large mistake.[/p][p] https://tenbycaldeyswim.wordpress.com/[/p][p][br][/p]
