My story

[p]Hey everyone! [/p][p]Many of you will already know but for those who don’t in August last year we received the devastating news that my dad had been diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND).[/p][p]MND is a terminal disease. It affects the cells in the brain affecting ones ability to walk, talk, swallow etc. So little is currently known about this disease and research is ongoing. Treatments such as physio, speech and language and medicine can help to reduce the impact the symptoms have on dads life. But it is a progressive disease and sadly there is no cure. [/p][p]In his prime, dad used to enjoy long distance running but despite applying three times to run the marathon he was never successful (sorry dad). After a recent hospital admission for complications associated with MND he informed me he “wouldn’t be running any marathons any time soon.” So….I have decided to run one for him!! [/p][p]This will undoubtedly be the most challenging thing I have ever done. Those of you who know me will know that I am not generally the running type - it isn’t something I find easy, especially with the lockdown/pregnancy paunch! But my dad is facing his biggest challenge to date too. The courage and bravery he has shown in the face of adversity will be my motivation. So dad, I know you’ll be reading this….I’m running this for you; to honour you and all the MND warriors out there! And to hopefully raise some much needed funds in the process so that perhaps one day we can find a way to rid the world of this cruel and brutal disease.[/p][p]I have pledged to raise £3000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. This money will go towards funding crucial research and most importantly towards caring for those who like us are already sadly affected by MND. [/p][p]Love you Dad. xx[/p]
