My story

<p>Well I have finally gone and done it rather than just talking about it!!!&nbsp; I have a place in the London Marathon BUT now the hard work really starts.</p> <p>As many of you know, Lucy, our 5 year old daughter has a mild right hemiplegia (a form of cerebral palsy) and so I am running the London Marathon to raise money for HemiHelp which is a charity that has provided us with invaluable information and support.</p> <p>Thanks for visiting my page and helping me reach my fundraising goal. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charities behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.</p> <p><strong>Monday 1st Feb</strong> - Ran twelve miles yesterday and feeling really good for it!&nbsp; Next week is 14 miles which will be the furthest I have ever run so watch this space .........</p> <p><strong>Monday 8th Feb</strong> - did 14 miles yesterday and although bit stiff today feel great!&nbsp; Got a fundraising event organised this week so hoping to raise about &pound;200 then!</p> <p><strong>Sunday 14th Feb - </strong>ran 16 miles yesterday and felt good!&nbsp; Bit stiff and tired today but then did go to a party last night so maybe cant just blame the running!</p> <p>Had a fantastic Girls Night In last week and raised almost &pound;300 which was great!&nbsp; Off to Wales for a few days this week so may take it a bit easy in preparation for the Brighton Half next Sunday!</p> <p><strong>Monday 22nd Feb - </strong>the week started well and me and the girls had a lovely few days in Wales (although nightmare journey home!).&nbsp; I was then struck with a stomach bug for 48 hours and was confined to bed hence no running!&nbsp; Touch and go whether I would make the Brighton Half Marathon but decided to give it a go! The weather was awful wind, rain and hail I finished slower than last year (hardly surprising but v disappointing!).&nbsp; Gareth and the girls and mum, dad, Kate, Hattie, Guy, Anna and Zachary were all at the finish which made it all better!!!</p> <p><strong>Sunday 28th Feb - </strong>Ran 16 miles this morning in the rain and wind again!!&nbsp; I found it really tough again but had a good giggle as part of the "planned" route involved a very busy A road with narrow grass verges and due to the wet this was amusing!!!&nbsp; We ended up climbing into a farmers field at one point to avoid HGV's!!!!</p> <p><strong>Monday 8th March - </strong>ran 18 miles on Saturday and it wasnt raining!!! Found miles 14 - 16 really hard so ended up stopping, buying some more water and giving myself a good talking to before carrying on to the end!&nbsp; It getting really tough now so have to keep reminding myself why I doing it!!!!&nbsp; Oh and 8 days without alcohol today so v pleased with myself!</p> <p><strong>Monday 15th March - </strong>Went out with Gareth on Saturday and ran 19 miles - he went alongside me on his bike!!!!&nbsp; It was tough and found 14-16 miles really hard again!!! Still off the booze - the enforced alcohol free time because of my teeth (the stitches came out on Tuesday much to my delight) is over tomorrow but I am going to try and keep it up a bit longer!&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Sunday 21st March - </strong>had a scheduled "rest" weekend so only had to run 6 miles yesterday which was nice and meant I had a lot more of the weekend free for other things!&nbsp; I had a glass of wine or two!!</p> <p>My girls and my nieces are holding a fundraising morning next saturday so we have been busy getting ready for that I will update you next week how we get on!&nbsp; Next Sunday is the longest run of the training 21 miles so watch this space .....</p> <p><strong>Sunday 28th March - </strong>well the longest run didnt go to plan - it was an organised run with a time limit at 15 miles to carry on.&nbsp; I was too hot needed a wee and was too pressured and didnt make it so stopped at 15 :(.&nbsp; On the plus side I am determined to nail it&nbsp;next weekend and the girls raised about &pound;140 at their fundraising morning.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Tuesday 6th April - </strong>I did it I ran 21 miles on Friday in the sun, wind and rain and felt good!&nbsp; A friend joined me for an hour and then Gareth met me on his bike for a couple of hours so it was broken up and dare I say it enjoyable in places!!!&nbsp;After last weekend which was probably the lowest point of my training I am feeling good!</p> <p>I spent the weekend celebrating by eating and drinking lots and so now it back to the straight and narrow for the last 19 days!&nbsp; I cannot believe it is so close now ......</p> <p><strong>Thursday 15th April - </strong>I am in the local paper today with a lovely picture of me and Lucy and a nice bit of blurb!&nbsp; 10 days today I will be running the London Marathon - something I have dreamed of for so long!&nbsp; I am starting to get bit nervous but think mainly as have lots of logistics to sort in next few days.</p> <p>Training is tapering and my long run lasst weekend was only 12 miles - it seems funny saying only when only 16 weeks ago that was a huge amount!&nbsp; This weekend is 8 miles and I plan to enjoy it!&nbsp; Sunday is the inaugural &nbsp;Brighton Marathon which I have some friends running in so&nbsp;will be watching and&nbsp;that will definitely get me panicking!&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Sunday 18th April - </strong>Had bit of hit and miss week as not felt well but went out yesterday for last long run of 8 miles and felt really good!&nbsp;</p> <p>Have been to Brighton today to watch the first ever Brighton marathon - it was fab the weather was hot (too hot for the runners but great for spectators!) and the atmosphere brilliant, maybe another year .......</p> <p>Next time I'll update I will have finished the London Marathon - I hope!</p> <p><strong>Saturday 1st May -</strong>&nbsp;I did it! I completed the London Marathon in 5 hours and 14 mins and had the most amazing day!&nbsp; I saw all my family and friends around the course and thoroughly enjoyed it!&nbsp; I have a very relaxing week been drinking lots of wine and treating myself to anything and everything!&nbsp; Have tackled my first run today and my hamstring and knee played up but sure can get that sorted before next year .....</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
