My story
[p]**Update 20 July** Our hair has been mailed to The Little Princess Trust. It's not too late to support our fundraising though, please continue to share Jen's story. [/p][p]**Update** We did it! Our hair will be on it's way to Little Princess Trust.[/p][p]Thank you to everyone who has donated already. I love reading your messages 😊[/p][p]My story...[/p][p]Hi, my name’s Jen and I’m nine years old. On 16 July I will be shaving off all my hair![/p][p]Now, I know that you probably think I’m crazy, but here is why I am doing this…You see, I want to do something to help people like me, people who’ve helped me and people who’ve helped those I love…so….[/p][p]At the beginning of the year my Uncle was diagnosed with Cancer. Because of Covid, I haven’t been able to see my Uncle or give him a hug.[/p][p]Sometimes the medicine that people use to treat cancer can make them lose their hair, so I want to give my hair to the Little Princess Trust to be used in a wig…my way of helping someone with a terrible disease feel just a little bit better.[/p][p]Then there is the dodgy ticker thing. My brother and I are both ‘heart babies’. That means we were both born with poorly hearts. My brother has had three operations (he’s only 15) and I have had one, but I have to have another one – we just don’t know when yet. I see my cardiologist twice a year.[/p][p]My grandfathers (Gandy and Opa), grandmother (Ouma) and uncle have also all had heart attacks. I can’t really remember my Gandy because his heart just wasn’t strong enough and he died when I was a baby.[/p][p]So, I want to help raise some money for the British Heart Foundation to help them find cures and treatments for people like us with poorly hearts. I don’t want other people to miss out on knowing members of their family because their hearts are just not strong enough.[/p][p]Then there is the NHS. Without the NHS my brother and I would not be alive. We have the very best doctors and nurses looking after us, so I know we are very, very lucky![/p][p]I have also met lots of amazing doctors and nurses and other people doing all sorts of jobs at Royal Surrey. I have been cared for by physio, the eye clinic, doctors and nurses. They are all brilliant.[/p][p]They always take such good care of me and they have had to work even harder because of Covid. I want to raise some money to help the Royal Surrey workers have something nice because they really deserve it.[/p][p]So, please help. But...before I go I must also tell you that my mummy is also a little crazy as she will be shaving her head too, so that we can be ‘fuzzy-headed’ together.[/p][p]Please give what you can to help me reach my goal.[/p][p]Thank you,[/p][p]Jen.[/p][p]x[/p]
