My story

[p]🦋 I ran the Vitality London 10k along side many of my friends and #TEAMLIBS in May 2019, in memory of my friend Liberty Grace Schurer for Bone Cancer Research and Libertys Legacy🧡 [/p][p]🦋 Liberty was truly an amazing friend and her story will always inspire me. I will always remember Libs’ smile and how she was still so happy and giggly. I will especially remember how hard Libs fought and how much courage she had. Liberty faced chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hair loss and unsuccessful 9 hour limb salvage surgery at the precious age of 13 years old. No child nor any person should have to go through what Libs went through! Liberty’s greatest wish was for more fundraising and research for Ewings Sarcoma as there was a total lack of it so that no other child need suffer in the same way. To fulfill Libertys wish and carry on fundraising for Libertys Legacy I have organised two cake sales raising over £580 for the Bone Cancer Research Trust in memory of Libs and have donated in many other fundraisers so that no other child, their friends or their family have to suffer from Ewing’s Sarcoma. I hope to make you proud Libs!! 💛xxx[/p][p]🦋 Liberty’s Story [/p][p]After a courageous 13 month battle with cancer, Liberty Grace sadly gained her angel wings on October 11th 2017, just 2 weeks after celebrating her 14th birthday. [/p][p]Liberty was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma in September 2016 on her 13th birthday. It is a rare and very aggressive form of bone cancer. [/p][p]During her gruelling treatment, Liberty was an absolute inspiration to us all, she just got on with it in typical Libs fashion, rarely loosing her amazing and oh so cheeky sense of humour, that dazzling smile for which she will forever be remembered, rarely slipping from her face. We could not have been more proud.[/p][p]Sadly just days from finishing treatment in August 2017, Liberty discovered a new lump and we received the news we had forever dreaded. Not only had the Ewing's returned, but devastatingly it had extensively spread throughout her lungs, her liver and her lymph glands. There was nothing more that could be done.[/p][p]But still she fought on with that fierce determination that she was so known for, opting for yet more chemotherapy to try and extend her life. But the cancer was just too aggressive, the tumour burden too great, her now tiny frame just too weak.[/p][p]It was during these last few weeks that the idea for Liberty's Legacy was born. Throughout the course of her illness Liberty's biggest frustration and indeed ours was the total lack of funding and research into this deadly form of the disease. The protocol with which she was treated was decades old, designed for adults, and sadly survival rates for Ewing's have not improved in over 30 years. How could this be?[/p][p]Liberty's greatest wish was therefore that we fundraise in her name, with all proceeds to go towards research into Ewing's, so that no other child need suffer in the same way and no other family be devastatingly ripped apart. Through Liberty's Legacy, we hope that her name will live on and allow us to bring Liberty into the future with us, and give honour and meaning to her life.[/p][p]We hope Liberty would be proud of what we have achieved so far but so much more needs to be done and we need your help. Liberty and so many just like her had so much to give and deserved so much more. We greatly value any contribution or support you can give, however large or small, as together we can make a difference.... until there is a cure.[/p][p][br][/p]
