My story

Hi, thanks for visiting my page.

So, I hate running. Really, I do. I thought I would try to overcome this lifelong aversion by forcing myself to do a marathon, a kill or cure. With a little over 3 weeks to go I can confirm that, no, it's not working.

Still, I'd like to try and raise some money for good causes, so I'm going to go through with it. So many people were generous last year that I am not really actually asking you to donate money, but hoping that you will do anyway.

It has been a hard slog to even get to this position and when, at mile 15 I hit the Eiffel tower (perhaps literally if the route is as badly planned as some of my training runs), I won't be sure that I can do the next 11.2.

However, if, by some miracle I do raise over £3,000 I pledge to add to the fun on the day by running in my Welsh dragon outfit. Hopefully people won't be that generous this year! (please note, the total raised by the time I came to pack was c£1,250 so the dragon outfit has stayed at home in favour of everything else in my flat - I do have a back-up plan though.) As a more achieveable target, I have a commitment from one of my band of supporters that she will wear something funny (during the race) to inspire me if I hit £500*. If I reach £1,000 Andy Crisp has pledged to dress as a Frog in our support crew. So, I'm hoping to get that far...

I really can't stress how much I am not looking forward to turning up to that start line in Paris so please do give generously. I know there are lots of pleas and worthy causes at the moment so I really won't blame you if you don't give money but, at the very least, spare a little thought for me on 10 April and every other silly ****** running Paris (in particular Ruth Walters!).

The charities...

Ocean Youth Trust is a great charity that I also volunteer for, providing the chance for kids to get away from tough lives and experience sailing, working in a team and bonding with other people who may appreciate their difficult experiences. I've seen the effect it can have and think they do great work.

Cancer Research UK: I know the effect of cancer and my thoughts go out to everyone currently living with with its consequences. Most of you know someone in particular so spare them a thought rather than me on the 10th.

The blurb...Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

* You'll see.
