My story

[p]**Update!** I am now fully back into London marathon training mode, I will sign up for some races leading up to the marathon starting with the ASICS 10k in London for the 25th of July. Running in a crowd again will be weird! Any donations are very appreciated![/p][p]I did reach my goal of running 1000miles in 2020 in the 17th of December. [/p][p]__________________[/p][p]In February 2007 my life changed when I was diagnosed with MS. I was convinced it was going to be for the worse and felt quite lost about it. I started looking up information about MS everywhere I could, and landed on the MS Trust website. I really loved the information I read and the approach about "Don't panic". Funny enough the biggest effect the diagnoses had on me was to take stock of my life, I was doing a job I didn't love, I was commuting in to London, which caused me stress and I was having quite a few MS relapses. I realised I had to make a change. Once again surfing the MS Trust website I noticed the link work for us, I filled in an application and hit send. In November 2007 I found myself working for the MS Trust in their Letchworth offices.[/p][p]This is where I feel I found my calling. Working with amazing people that make a real difference for people with MS and the MS health professionals everyday. I work with the information and engagement team and I see everyday the support and help they provide to people who are a bit lost. But we also have an amazing fundraising team here at work, and you have to look hard to find a better bunch of people. These guys are just amazing in the encouragement and support they give. I saw all these people over the years taking part in runs, and one day in 2016 I decided to sign up for London 10K to run it for the MS Trust.[/p][p]I had never run properly in my life, always being overweight it wasn't something I enjoyed. But I started a Couch25K program, and went to the London 10k and I managed to run the whole thing. And the feeling it gave me was amazing. I could actually do this! It felt like punching MS really hard and just for once being really proud of what my body could do. All the running and healthy eating made me loose over 4 stone in process which was a bonus![/p][p]I then signed up for a half marathon...this seemed like utter madness, but in 2018 I manged to do it, and I have run a few more halfs since. Then I started getting the questions about doing a marathon, but I said no, no, no. But then I went with our fundraising team to cheer on at the London marathon in April 2019, and feeling really swept up by the amazing feeling, I entered the ballot. When I didn't get a place I was relived, but then I felt disappointed, I realised I really wanted to see if I could do this. I spoke to some of my work friends, and I said "I always thought you had to be totally crazy to want to run a Marathon" and one of them looked at me and said "But you kind of are!"[/p][p]So I got signed up to run the 2020 London Marathon, but by now we all know how it went, there was no Marathon in April. However, as I was furloughed and had a lot of time on my hands I decided to keep on training and run the virtual marathon in October. Training was hard, and lonely at times, but with the support of some fantastic friends and workmates on the 4th of October 2020 I ran my first ever Marathon. So I guess that was the practice run so to say...October 2021 hopefully the world will be a more normal place and I will be running through London instead of Letchworth! [/p][p]I am hoping to be able to be putting on some events for raising money, but I will plan this later! My first challenge will be to run 5km every day through December, yes that includes over Christmas. And reach my yearly target of 1000 miles run (1609km)[/p][p]Right then Jidborg, let's do this thing! Again... [/p][p][br][/p]
