My story

[p]Back in April, I was due to run the London marathon for the second time (and my 21st marathon overall) and was training hard to try and break 3 hours. However, At the same time my wife was due with our first baby, who was due to be born the day before the race and so it always felt like a gamble as to if I might need to defer. [/p][p][br][/p][p]As it was, the race was cancelled which worked out well as at 5.45am on 26th April, Elsie Rae Dale was born. While lots of my running friends pointed out I could have still made the start line, training fell by the way side as I adjusted to life as a dad. [/p][p][br][/p][p]Several months later I started running with Elsie in a running pram, and now, 5 monthes after her birth, on the 4th October I will be running the 26.2 miles of the London Marathon with Elsie, making her probably the youngest ever finisher of a VLM event (I’m assuming this is the case based on the normal age restrictions).[/p][p][br][/p][p]My plan is to run laps of Victoria Park, with my wife on hand for a feeding/ nappy change pit stops if needed. It won’t be sub 3 for sure but I’m so excited to run my first marathon with her.[/p][p][br][/p][p]We often talk about her being born on Marathon day so there’s something wonderful now about her being able to complete the same marathon she should have shared her birthday with.[/p]
