My story

[p]This is a page for general donations towards our work in India throughout 2020.[/p][p]The Pendsey Trust funds sustainable initiatives to help children and young people living in India with Type 1 Diabetes to live a fulfilled life. Many of the people we support live in extreme poverty and have no means to pay for insulin, which puts their lives at risk. We take a two pronged approach; in the short term we fund medical care but alongside this, we provide education, college grants or business start up grants to help the person to be independent with their medical costs have a sustainable means of affording their own insulin and no longer relying on charity. We find this a successful and dignifying approach and have many success stories. In India, people with diabetes face a huge stigma and sadly this is especially so for females, as widespread gender inequality exists.[/p][p]A little goes a long way in India:[/p][p]£4 provides insulin for a week[/p][p]£16 provides life saving insulin for a month[/p][p]£11 buys a Frio pouch, a sustainable way to keep insulin cool in the 45c heat[/p][p]£40 buys a bike to provide a safe way to reach school [/p][p]£5 allows a young person to start a wholesale spice business[/p][p]£70 buys a sewing machine, allowing a young woman to start a tailoring business[/p][p]£20 sends a child to school for 6 months[/p][p]£50 provides a grant for a young person to start a business[/p][p]£10 buys school supplies[/p][p][br][/p][p]Thanks for your donation, of which every penny gets through to those who need it thanks to our amazing supporters who donate their skills and time to us. To find out more about how we audit our donations in both the UK and India, just ask us.[/p][p]If you are a UK taxpayer, please remember to tick the Gift Aid option as this boosts your donation by 25% at no extra cost to you or us.[/p]

Hi Jo, I sponsor 2 boys and every year, donate to charities rather than sending Christmas cards. I have decided to donate half of the amount to the Pendsey Trust. The webinar with Dr Pendsey last weekend was so lovely and completely inspiring. Janex
