My story

[p]Well here I am again and I know some of you will be asking why. Because through all the pain and tears it’s still a massive acheivement for me and very fulfilling. . It’s also because I can - when so many people can’t and if I can make a small difference why not.[/p][p]My marathon experience isn’t what you see on TV - I’m a slow 🐌 and more of a plodder than runner.1989 was so different as it’s wasnt the huge race it is today, 2018 they ran out of water and I got hit by flying water bottles as the clean up crew started their clean up and 2019 due to a knee injury around mile 14 meant this happened again. As a result of finishing in over 7 hrs in 2019 I was offered a guaranteed free place for 2020 on what is the 40th Anniversary. It’s just too good of an opportunity to take part in this iconic race and raise much needed funds for 2 fantastic charities.[/p][p]Macmillan has become a charity that has become close to my heart - I wish it hadn’t but it has. In 2019 Dave lost his cousin and in October I lost a very dear friend . I also wanted to do something to help my local community and so chose County Durham charity The Angel Trust which helps support local people and organisations.[/p][p]Its still a huge challenge for me just to get through the training - keeping injury free and fitting in the long runs between Jan and April between work with the dark mornings and nights. i don’t do easy.[/p][p]So Covid 19 put paid to April but training continues as the Marathon is moved to 4-10-20.Arrggghh summer training but i will pound those street of London for one last time.[/p][p]Updated - so the 40th London Marathon will be completed in my home town. No mile markets, crowds, water station, finishing line or medal. No smooth roads to run on instead wonky pavements, traffic lights and other people on the pavements. Its going to be different but its still a job i need to get done and i will. It will certainly be different- Wish me luck Xxx[/p][p][br][/p][p]4-10-20[/p][p]i made it and what an experience. I was so lucky with the weather. I never thought that people would surprise me from the start , family and friends turned up at various points with cheers and posters to will me on. Im not going to lie i struggled from mile 20 and wanted to give up - but i would never have.[/p][p]I cant express my sincere thanks to every single person who donated, said a kind word or stood and clapped me. Its very humbling and whilst im as slow as a snail helping and remembering loved ones is what gets me through. [/p][p]My last thanks is to my hubby Dave who has endured my running since 2017 but is always encouraging and by my side [/p][p]xxx[/p][p][img][/img][/p][p] .[/p]
