My story

[p]On 28 April 2019 I will be running the London Marathon in support of the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust.[/p][p]As some of you will be aware, my wife Nikki suffered an ectopic pregnancy in late 2017. An ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy in which the embryo attaches itself somewhere outside the uterus, typically in one of the fallopian tubes. The unborn baby cannot be saved, and the life of the mother can also be at severe risk. [/p][p]This was an extremely traumatic time for us as you can imagine. Within the space of just 1 week we went from the ecstasy of finding out we were pregnant, to the devastation of not only losing the baby, but the real risk of also losing Nikki. [/p][p]Thankfully, after insisting on an early scan, it was found before Nikki got into any serious danger, but the pain of losing a baby in this manner (or indeed any manner) can be difficult and lasting for any would-be parents, and this is where The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust (EPT) can help. Please see the below link for more information about the charity.[/p][p]https://www.ectopic.org.uk/patients/how-we-can-help/[/p][p]I have taken on the challenge of running the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon to raise money for the EPT to support the great work they do.[/p][p]I'm relatively fit, and have done minor events in the past, the odd 10km run or obstacle course here and there, but this will be a huge test for me.[/p][p]I would greatly appreciate any donation to support this cause, and please remember to add gift aid where applicable.[/p][p]Thank you[/p][p]Joe[/p][p][br][/p][p]**UPDATE** 16 November 2018[/p][p]Training is going well so far, I'm up to 9 miles on my long weekend runs, and I do a couple of shorter mid weeks runs too. It's just as tough as I thought it was going to be, it's a serious commitment but I'm pleased with the progress I've made. No injuries so far (fingers crossed!) and increasing distance steadily each week. Need to be more strict on the diet but have lost a stone so far, which my knees thank me for every time I go out![/p][p][br][/p][p]**UPDATE** 22 January 2019[/p][p]My formal 17 week training plan started on New Year's Day, and I've been getting out running as much as possible, around 4-5 times a week. The plan incorporates running on Saturday and Sunday every week, which is tough going as they are usually the longest runs, but I'm enjoying it and hitting targets so far. I'm bringing treadmill running in to my training as I find it easier to do the interval training sessions that way, but it's amazing how different it is to road running, both have their benefits. Onwards and upwards![/p]
