My story

[p]Manchester to Stockholm via Tel Aviv (and a few other points in between)[/p][p]Folks: if you're reading this page, odds are you know why I've been doing this Manchester-Stockholm running challenge (mid-life crisis aside!) and why I'm raising money for the Breast Cancer Unit Support Trust (BUST), the Bristol-based charity “founded by patients for patients to support the work of the Bristol Breast Care Centre at Southmead Hospital”.[/p][p]Since its formation in the 1990s, BUST has raised more than £1.7 million to fund innovation in the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease at the Bristol Breast Care Centre. The centre saves lives on a daily basis and is one of the best adverts I can think of for a public health service that puts patients and their families first.[/p][p]To support the Breast Care Centre’s life-saving work, I’ve been pounding the mean streets of Chipping Sodbury day in, day out since the start of the year in a bid to get myself “into shape”. Much to my surprise, all of that plodding seems to have paid off and I’ve subsequently managed to go the distance in three half marathons (Jan, Feb, Mar) and three marathons (Apr, May, June). [/p][p]The scores on the doors are posted below along with a few pics of me over the past few months in various stages of physical exhaustion in my rather fetching BUST T-shirt…[/p][p]# 27 January: Heaton Park Half Marathon (Manchester) 2hr 6min[/p][p]# 22 February: Tel Aviv Half Marathon 2hr 2min[/p][p]# 24 March: Wilmslow Half Marathon 2hr 1min[/p][p]# 28 April: Stirling Scottish Marathon 4hr 27min[/p][p]# 12 May: Geneva Marathon 4hr 48min[/p][p]# 1 June: Stockholm Marathon 4hr 54min[/p][p]Many thanks for all your fantastic support and encouragement along the way – financial and otherwise. It really is appreciated.[/p][p]This page will remain open for donations till the end of June in case anyone else wants to chip in. [/p][p]Thanks again and all the best. Joe[/p][p][br][/p]
