My story

[p]Track the race at https://azab.co.uk/[/p][p]Follow the daily blog: https://www.sailblogs.com/member/vikinglord/[/p][p]Track us on https://marinetraffic.com/ and search for Viking Lord[/p][p]To help raise vital funds for two exceptional charities - Motor Neurone Disease Association NI and Habitat for Humanity NI - myself and team mate and skipper Paul McSorley will be taking Viking Lord on a long ocean race. The Azores and Back 2019, covering 2400 miles, starts from Falmouth Harbour, Cornwall on 1st June 2019, to the town of Ponta Delgada on the island of São Miguel, part of the Azores Islands in the mid-atlantic. With a fair wind, we estimate the round-trip will take us about 4 weeks to complete – four hours sailing, four hours sleeping. Having sailed since we were teenagers, Paul and I are under no illusions as to the gruelling challenge ahead of us – it’s not for the faint-hearted or super sensible! We fully expect to be tested mentally, emotionally and physically so we’re both anxious and excited in equal measure.[/p][p]We have already completed a qualifying 500mile round trip to Rockall (an isolated wave swept rock approx. 250 miles due North West of Tory island - photo below).[/p][p]There will a satellite track of progress and we hope to update a daily blog on a website (URL pending)[/p][p]Track the race at https://azab.co.uk/[/p][p]Follow the daily blog: https://www.sailblogs.com/member/vikinglord/[/p][p]Please support us and the vital work of these two deserving charities – everything raised will be split equally between Motor Neurone Disease Association NI supporting those living with MND and their families here in Northern Ireland and Habitat for Humanity NI delivering hope and homes for vulnerable people both at home and abroad - especially after the impact of storm Idai.
