My story

[p]I, representing Gemini's Training team, have entered the fantastic Auto Raise Real Rally and for 2019 we have a new theme = Brexit. Gemini have made a selection of 30 non (and potential non) EU countries. These have been allocated to each site and our head office teams; I have been given a great theme challenge this year to represent the wonderful country of Sri Lanka! [/p][p]Thought will be put into how the driver and co-driver can represent this country appearance wise (!), and what can be added to the old Renault to link with Sri Lanka.[/p][p]I will be using my "classic" 1965 Renault Dauphine Gordini to take part. This classic car will become themed and display any sponsorship; how this portrayal will unfold is "work in progress". The overall appearance will be a combination of its original metallic blue colour but with several panels in "Gemini green"! Preparing the car for the June Rally is being undertaken by Gemini Macclesfield, and specifically, most of the work will be carried out by one of their Gemini Multiskills Apprentices, Tyler Billing and Tom Kimber under the supervision of Chris Cartledge (Assistant Site Manager). Preparing a 54 year car to undertake the 4 day Rally throughout Scotland will be challenging, as it has not been on the road now for nearly 3 years! I am confident this will be possible; apart from changing the external appearance, there has been much mechanical and electrical work required to aim for reliability. I am sure it will all be good for the event by entering a classic car that the model was once a Monte Carlo winner![/p][p]I am seeking as many sponsors as possible to support this exciting entry and of course to invite as many financial donations to this wonderful charitable cause. I need to raise a minimum of £1,000 for the charity, purely to be able to take part in the Real Rally, so every contribution is vital to "kick-start" towards achieving this target. Any donation of money, no matter how small and hopefully large, will be gratefully received with thanks. Sponsorship offers above £100 will be eligible to have their organisation displayed on the classic car.[/p][p]I have gone through all present and past email contacts to share this appeal to help; please also forward it to any of your contacts you feel may also be generous.[/p][p]I will add photos as the car progresses, but please view the initial photograph of the car before preparation work starts! in order[/p][p]An update week ending 19th April 2019: Much work has taken place to prepare the car in order to make it reliable for the 4 day event. The electrical ignition system has been overhauled to increase its reliability. The key accomplishment this week has been that our apprentice, Tyler Billing has completely overhauled the braking system by renewing all 4 brake discs, caliper overhaul, fitting new disc pads and setting up the handbrake (images show work taking place at the front). Next week it is planned to service the complete fuel system, and undertake a full service (including attending to the many grease points!). We are nearing confirmation of a sponsor who will "wrap" the four doors, bonnet and boot lid in Gemini green! Designs are being investigated to create the Sri Lankan flag in a suitable location. A lot to do to prepare things but a lot of optimism for success. [/p][p]Thank you to Pisces Training and Stanners equipment for speedy donations as soon as I posted the story, but also thank you to the other friends who have since donated to the good cause. I am still a long way off reaching my target of achieving £1,000 so please make a donation how ever small. If all my Facebook and email contacts I have reached made a £5 or 5 euro contribution, it would more than double the target figure. Still time to help. Further reports and images as progress is made.[/p][p]Update on 19th June 2019[/p][p]Less than a week to go, but if you look at the recent pictures, we are nearly ready to go! Tunnicliffes have made a superb job of wrapping most of the car so it truly now is a member of the Gemini Real Rally team! The apprentices have continued to prepare the car mechanically with but a few jobs to complete this week. We now have a few touches of Sri Lanka added to the Renault including elephants and peacocks. Other touches will be added on the day![/p][p]Update 29/06/2019: The actual Real Rally is now over, but funding raising remains open for the next few days. The Renault Dauphine Gordini completed 714 miles, with only a couple of issues; starting resolved with a new earth strap, and wiper motor going slow solved by subsequent fine weather! The old car has been brilliant and has run very smoothly and stops effectively with the overhauled system with new parts fitted. It cruised generally at 55-60 mph so it kept up with the more modern cars on the Real Rally. I would like to thank everyone who has made a donation to support my participation on this journey to raise funds for AutoRaise. There is still time to support me to increase what I have raised; the total up to now is £475; short of my £1,000 target. I have added a selection of car photographs taken over the 4 days. Please view the link to raise money and help this worthy cause. Gemini (the company I work for) have started working with AutoRaise to help bring some fresh faces into the trade and we offer great opportunities for apprentices. This year Gemini are putting an amazing show of support/fundraising towards the charity AutoRaise. Gemini has given £500 each to our 25 repair sites and 4 extra to our head office team to buy a car for the REAL Rally. The idea is that our apprentices will carry out as much of the work as possible before the event in June. Please visit the page to find out more, give what you can and please share so we can raise as much as possible.”[/p][p]They are great charities and well worthy of your support[/p][p][br][/p]
