My story

[p]Everest 60,060ft step challenge[/p][p]I am a Royal Navy Veteran, Ex Physical Training Instructor and survivor of HMS Coventry who was bombed, capsized and sank in 20min during the 1982 Falklands War. I was diagnosed with PTSD after 30 years in 2016, having gone through some very dark and black times. [/p][p]My recovery was helped by Local Veterans Charity Forward Assist who guided me through difficult times, I was introduced to a Mental Fitness coach Polly Brennan. Through this I was able to, using the power of sport, Triumph in the face of adversity.[/p][p]Mount Everest is 29,030ft above sea level. What goes up must come down. I intend to walk up and down the West Stand of Newcastle Falcons Rugby Club over a period of 3 days, a total of 60,060 steps carrying a 25lb Bergen on my back. I intend to do this accompanied by my 23 year old son Larry. [/p][p]I was introduced to the famous rugby player Doddie Weir in 1997, my wife was pregnant at the time. His comment was, “ With a bump that size, I’ll get professional forms ready for him to sign up” 16 years later he still remembered us both. I met him 2 years later at a post match dinner and again he still remembered.[/p][p]Myname’5doddie Foundation [/p][p]My Name'5 Doddie Foundation was established by Doddie Weir and its trustees after the former Scotland and Lions player was diagnosed with motor neuron disease. The Foundation raises funds to invest into MND research and to support patients living with motor neuron disease. [/p][p]The Falcons Community Foundation[/p][p]The Foundation has been in existence since 2005 and is responsible for the delivery of the Newcastle Falcons’ community objectives.Their aim is to motivate, educate and inspire via the power of sport. They work across five pillars of activity: club development, grassroots sports, health, social inclusion and education over a wide range of programmes.[/p][p]These dates are subject to Kingston Park stadium coronavirus regulations. [/p][p][br][/p][p]Please support this challenge it will help so many people in many different ways, it may even save lives.[/p][p][br][/p]
