My story

[p]To mark my 70th birthday in January 2020, I decided to undertake my first ever triathlon to raise money for Kids at School in Nepal (KASIN). Originally scheduled to take place in Skipton on Sunday 19th April 2020, then delayed till September 2020, it has now been cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions. As an alternative, I will be undertaking a duathlon involving a 22 km cycle ride followed by a 5 km run on Tuesday 11th May 2021. Until then, in lieu of the 400 m swim which is not possible, I've committed myself to an average of 100km/month for both running and walking for 4 months. You can follow my efforts on Strava![/p][p]Why put myself through such an arduous experience? Simply because, during my annual visits to Nepal over 12 years, I have seen the value of educating children in one of the poorest countries of the world. Some kids walk 2 hours to school and 2 hours back each day because they know that education will help to pull them and their families out of poverty. Sadly, government schools are hugely under-resourced, with poorly trained and motivated teachers. KASIN was set up in 2003 and now supports a number of schools in remote areas of Nepal. For details of our work, including teacher training programmes, see www.kasin.org.uk. The UK based charity has no office, employs no staff, and the trustees claim no expenses, so every pound raised (less a very small foreign currency transfer charge) reaches the beneficiaries. We know our funding makes a real difference because, at their own cost, a number of trustees visit the projects every year.[/p][p]Please give generously so KASIN can support the education of more children on whom Nepal’s future depends. [/p]
