My story

[p]My wife Sally was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2008. Since then she has thrown herself wholeheartedly into fundraising and Parkinson's support work, and I thought it was about time I made a contribution too. Sally chairs the Oxford Branch of Parkinson's UK, and you can find all about it at the Branch's website oxfordparkinsons.org.uk. I love the North of England, I love visiting archaeological sites, and I love hiking. So what could be better than to walk the Hadrian's Wall national trail, and invite all you wonderful people to sponsor me to do it? Perhaps not the scariest challenge you may have seen here, but in my mid-sixties a walk of 84 miles over 5 days may be.... interesting. [/p][p]As I work my way eastwards I'll post updates on my blog at bit.do/jbbww where you can also track my location as I progress (there's a "Find Jonathan" button at the top of the page). My journey starts in Bowness-on-Solway on Monday 11th June and (if all goes well) concludes at the Segedunum museum in Wallsend, just east of Newcastle city centre, mid-afternoon on Friday 15th. I really hope they sell blister pads in the museum shop![/p][p][img][/img][/p][p]I'm not roughing it - there are plenty of B&Bs and pubs within easy reach of the trail - but I'll be carrying everything with me, and the detours to overnight stays and Vindolanda museum will make the total walk close to 100 miles.[/p]
