My story

[p]LinkAble is a charity very dear to me. For over 30 years they have provided crucial support to many children and adults with learning difficulties in Woking and the surrounding areas. My son Marcus (that’s him running with me in the cover picture) has benefited hugely from their services over the years, and until recently I served as a volunteer trustee.[/p][p]As with many good causes Covid-19 has harshly affected LinkAble’s ability to deliver their traditional face to face services and organise fundraising events. Despite the challenges LinkAble has continued to help over 160 service users through the various lockdowns in line with national and local guidance by creating an online support suite.[/p][p]As the parent of a child (now adult) with a learning disability I know how so much change and uncertainty can have a negative impact on their health and wellbeing. For many LinkAble has become even more important due to the support they have continued to provide during these difficult times.[/p][p]Now that I have a bit more time on my hands, I am preparing to run the Race to the Stones ultra-marathon to raise funds towards the work of LinkAble. On 10th July I shall be taking on the 100 kilometres run along the Ridgeway to the Avebury Circle. I started training in September 2020 and am confident that I will be able to finish the race in 13 to 14 hours.[/p][p]Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Hopefully, you can see just how important the work of LinkAble is and understand my personal motivation for taking on this challenge. By supporting me with a donation of any size you can help LinkAble continue its work supporting children and adults with learning disabilities in Woking and its surrounding areas.[/p]
