My story

[p]On 22nd September 2018, my dad, a retired Major in the Royal Engineers, and I, a junior doctor, set out to walk the length of the Hadrian's Wall National Trail (just under 100 miles), non-stop and unsupported, to raise awareness of the vital importance of maintaining adequate levels of physical activity and exercise throughout life and to raise money for Obesity Action, a UK-registered charity seeking to reduce levels of childhood obesity and support those already affected. [/p][p]Together, we walked from Bowness-on-Solway, crossing the Pennines at night and, though my dad was forced to retire due to injury after 27 hours, I went on to complete our challenge after 41.5hrs of walking. My dad, never one to be defeated, will be re-attempting his own walk in the Spring of 2019, once he has healed. [/p][p]Childhood obesity has a profound impact on the physical and mental health of millions of young people and their families across the UK and is associated with a significantly increased lifetime risk of heart disease, type II diabetes, liver disease and over 15 different cancers. Indeed, after smoking, obesity is the greatest avoidable risk factor for smoking in the western world. [/p][p]Please help my dad and I in our mission to support Obesity Action in tackling and reducing levels of childhood obesity. We are incredibly grateful for any donation you feel able to make and, by so doing, your decision to become part of our story. If you want to find out more please visit our Facebook and Twitter pages @OpHadrian. Thank you. [/p][p][br][/p]
