My story

[p]I am fundraising for the YMCA Burton Sleepout 2018 as I believe having a bed to sleep in should be a right and not a privilege in this modern age.[/p][p]Homelessness is a historical problem but with a strained economy, its a modern day epidemic. A problem that doesn't discriminate age, background, gender or race. From addiction, family issues or financial strain, those who need us the most all have a story of how they got there.[/p][p]Many walk on by and dare to help the homeless, often considered the lowest class in society. We swallow our emotions and distract ourselves on our phones, walking on by as we hesitate to share our hard earned money with whom most consider 'those that cant help themselves'. [/p][p]The sad truth is addiction can be a cause or a repercussion. Family issues can be irreparable and financial strain; unrecoverable. Those considered 'vulnerable', adults and children alike, often do not have the resources or capability to help themselves, they rely on a world of pennies to make pounds, passers by sharing what they can, and the aid and support of charities such as the YMCA to survive.[/p][p]The YMCA Sleepout will provide me with a cardboard box before I assemble for a night in St. Modwen’s graveyard of Burton-on-Trent on the 9th November. I hope to raise £500. With my expansive list of friends, family and connections, I hope my network can reach further than those in need and smash my goal.[/p][p]With thanks[/p][p]Jordan Stokes[/p]
