My story

[p]I am honoured to be competing in one of the most difficult challenges in the world, the toughest race on earth, for such a fantastic and worthy cause - Walking With The Wounded. [/p][p]Established in 2010, Walking With The Wounded supports a pathway for vulnerable veterans to re-integrate back into society and sustain their independence. At the heart of this journey is employment. [/p][p]The Marathon des Sables is the stuff of legends. It is The Toughest Footrace on Earth. Completing it will be the hardest thing I have ever had to do, it is a truly gruelling multi-stage marathon through a mythical landscape in one of the world’s most inhospitable environments – the Sahara desert. You have to be self-sufficient and carry all your own food and equipment for the week on your back.[/p][p]In just six days I will run over 250km (156 miles) through endless dunes, over rocky jebels, and across white-hot salt plains. The sun will be a constant enemy with temperatures regularly reaching 50 centigrade. The sand will be a constant companion, clouds of it under our feet, sheets of it stinging our eyes and lots of it chafing where it shouldn’t. The long stage has become a legend in itself. We will run out of a Saharan morning, into the dusk and then the dark, many not finishing the 80+km till well into the next day. Your feet will swell, crack and bleed under the pressure and the heat[/p][p]WWTW recognise the inherent skills of our armed service personnel and want to complement these qualities, as well as provide support to transfer their skills into the civilian workplace. We offer assistance through our programmes to those vulnerable veterans who have been physically, mentally or socially disadvantaged by their service and assist them in sustaining their independence through new sustainable careers outside of the military. This includes providing support to homeless veterans and veterans in the Criminal Justice System, areas which are too often ignored.[/p][p]Completing this challenge will require a massive amount of training and huge time commitment, there will be blood, sweat & tears and so I beg you, please think of this, and what our armed service go through every single day, when you click the donate button..[/p]
