My story

[p]Hi,[/p][p]Jules here.[/p][p]We may or may not have met, either way thank you for stopping by and supporting me in a mad adventure and of course for supporting an amazing charity in KYRA.[/p][p]It has been a while since I signed up for something like this, over 11 years in fact, but I have finally found a localcharity that speaks to me AND I thought it was about time I got this body moving again. [/p][p]So, in July this year I will be trekking in Iceland. This is a tough and challenging trek through a remote and wild environment – and presents a rare opportunity to witness a landscape which is changing before our eyes. (I don't think 'tough' registered when I signed up!)[/p][p]I have wanted to do something like this for a while but wasn't sure which charity to support and then met the great team that run KYRA.[/p][p]KYRA is a women's project in York. Founded in 2013, the Kyra Women’s Projec was the brainchild of Yvonne Copley. Yvonne was aware that after any intervention or when people are feeling vulnerable and alone, there is a need for support. Through research and after meeting with a range of organisations in York, she learned that many women had to wait a considerable length of time to receive the specialist intervention and support they desperately needed. This occurred at a time when they were vulnerable, often isolated and at risk of making poor decisions. In addition, a lack of support following formal specialist treatments diminished their effectiveness of primary intervention and its outcome.[/p][p]Kyra Women’s Project began as a support centre for women, run by women, providing encouragement, companionship, information, training, and importantly, a sense of belonging.[/p][p]Kyra supports women to help overcome challenges and make change in their lives. It acts as a support group to prevent a relapse in behaviour and develop new habits.[/p][p]I have been volunteering with them for a few months now, offering my services as a coachn and have been truly humbled by the women I meet, both the members and volunteers. The service they provide is very needed and growing. With your sponsorship, these funds can help provide even more courses, equipment and supplies for KYRA. So thank you.[/p][p][br][/p][p]From the bottom of my heart thank you![/p][p]Jules[/p]
