My story

[p]Julian will be running the London Marathon 2020 in support the Electrical Industries Charity (EIC). The EIC raise much needed funds for those in the electrical industry who need it most, whether they be pensioners, apprentices or relatives. This year the charity focused on the effect cancer has within the electrical sector. Last year 1 in 10 of our cases related to cancer. That is 6 people per week and at least 1 case will be terminal. EIC established a funding partnership with Macmillan in 2015. To support anyone in the industry being treated for cancer and in financial distress. Average treatment time is 4 months across our industry, that means for most people being on SSP for at least 3 months. There is nothing worse for a family dealing with the distress of cancer then not know who they are going to meet their mortgage payments.[/p][p]For our industry the leading cancer is prostate. With over 85% of our industry male this isn’t surprising.[/p][p]Here are some statistics:[/p][p]Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men.[/p][p]Over 47,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year – that's 129 men every day.[/p][p]Every 45 minutes one man dies from prostate cancer – that's more than 11,000 men every year.[/p][p]1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime.[/p][p]Around 400,000 men are living with and after prostate cancer.[/p][p]By 2020, almost one in two people will get cancer at some point in their lives.[/p][p]Julian will be tackling the 26-mile challenge on April 26th 2020 to help support those going through cancer, cancer treatment or rehabilitation and needs your support to reach his fundraising target.[/p]
