My story

[p]I have chosen ICR as my charity as my Dad passed away on 16/12/20 from lung cancer. We literally found out 5 weeks before he died. He was lucky in that he had no pain but also meant we didn’t realise anything was really wrong until he started losing weight. He had been looking after my Mum who had dementia which was tough specially during lockdown. We had to quickly put my mum into respite as she couldn’t be alone and we needed to help Dad, thinking he was just stressed looking after her and then got the terminal diagnosis. She was devastated when we told her that he passed in December 2020 and we think she just gave up as she didn’t want to be without him, she stopped eating and drinking and died 5 weeks and 1 day after Dad we think from a broken heart. So it’s been a tough few months for my sister and I and our families. But I ran VLM in 2019 and did the virtual one last year and they were so proud of me I want to do it again for them in 2022 in their memory and raise money for a charity which really means something. My amazing friend Michelle is running and fundraising with me to achieve the target. We will be doing lots of fundraising things over the next year so keep your eyes peeled for info. Thank you for any donations we really appreciate your generosity xxx[/p]
