My story

[p]For those of you that have known me for a while you will know that I’m an avid fundraiser for one of our local charities the amazing East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices, who have hospices in Ipswich, Quidenham & Milton. They do amazing work for our local children that are suffering with life threatening and life limiting conditions and their families. [/p][p]For both families accessing care, and those who have been bereaved, EACH is a lifeline at an unimaginably difficult time. They rely heavily on voluntary donations for the majority of their income and need to raise almost £6 million to deliver their services this year – that’s £16,000 a day, every day of this year! [/p][p]I regularly get asked if I work for the charity, I don’t all my fundraising efforts and the time I give up is voluntary. Over the years I have taken on a number of challenges for the charity and during my fundraising efforts I rarely ask for sponsorship, instead I raise funds by putting on and getting involved in events, raffles, tombola’s & distributing collection boxes, merchandise, leaflets and information are my usual methods these days. [/p][p]However, the next 18 months are going to be filled with BIG no MASSIVE challenges for me and I would like to do it justice by trying to raise as much as I can through sponsorship, too. To do this I’m definitely going to need some help and would ask you to consider sponsoring me while I try and achieve and do justice to these major challenges I’m about to face and consider sponsoring me to help me achieve my fundraising goal of £1524 in by May 2019 for this very special local charity. That's £10 for every mile I will be covering in these challenges.[/p][p]So what are these challenges I keep talking about?[/p][p]Firstly, some of you will know that I was luckily enough to be gifted a 100 mile event place with training in the Diss Cyclathon Nine Town Sportive on Sunday 24th June 2018, I’m so excited about this but also very nervous. I’m still very much a beginner in this type of event, last year starting out at a 25 mile event and finishing at a 50 mile event. The aim of the training for this place is that I should finish it having averaged 15 miles per hour. My bike is not the best and I feel this is going to make this an even bigger challenge!![/p][p]Secondly, I was also lucky enough to have been drawn for the Berlin Marathon on 16th September 2018, which if you had seen me when I received my Congratulations email, you will understand how exciting this is for me. I’ll probably hate the entire 26 miles and 365 yards while I’m running it but right now I’m so excited to have the opportunity to run in one of the 6 World Marathon Majors. [/p][p]I have an appalling marathon track record, two recent attempts and two poor finishes due to injuries and other reasons, I really desperately want to do Berlin justice and run the entire length as close to 4 hours as I can but under 4 hours 30, with running being the operative word here! I’ve looked at my history on injury and I feel confident in the changes I’m making to my training programme and I’m hopeful to get there![/p][p]And finally, I will be taking on a huge challenge and making my way up Poon Hill, Nepal (3210m / 10,532 ft). I will be doing this with friends (Allen, Rebecca & Jane) I have gained on a previous treks in India and Cambodia.[/p][p]Any support that can be offered will be greatly appreciated, whether it’s in the form of a sponsor, donating your unwanted new items for tombola’s and fundraisers or keeping me company during my long rides in the first half of 2018 up until race day, or my long runs on the run up to my half marathons this Spring and marathon from the end of June to September. Maybe we can help each other out if you also have a summer marathon? If running is not your thing then maybe you can join me on some challenging walks.[/p][p]Please feel free to visit and like my Facebook page to keep up to date on my efforts and progress![/p][p]If you would like to sponsor me you can do so here if every one of my Facebook friends sponsored me just £1 I would be ¼ of the way there! Anything, absolutely anything you can offer in anyway will be gratefully received!![/p][p]I never stop challenging myself ….. So watch this space![/p][p]Much Love[/p][p]Jools[/p][p]https://www.facebook.com/JulietGarnhamFundraising4kChallengeforEACH/[/p][p][br][/p][p] [/p]
