My story

[p]On Friday 28th September I'll be cycling 1600kms in 9 days from London to Barcelona through the Pyrenees with 14 of my colleagues. We leave from 1 Creechurch Place in London (our new HQ from the end of this year) to Barcelona arriving in time for our annual conference. [/p][p]The cycle is a part of Hyperion's global Million for a Million(M4M) initiative – raising US$1 million by completing one million kms through a range of individual activities over the next 12 months. The money raised from M4M will go to four special causes: Plastic Oceans, Black Dog Institute (a mental health and support charity), Cancer Research UK and InteRed (a support and education charity for disadvantaged children).[/p][p]As most of you know, I love all things cycling, but I wanted a challenge that is beyond my comfort zone due to the distances involved each day and supporting and raising awareness for these fantastic charities. Look out for my daily updates en route. [/p][p]The Charities[/p][p]All our nominated charities make a real difference to people’s lives and any support you can give will be much appreciated both by me and by their beneficiaries.[/p][p]Black Dog Institute[/p][p]Millions of people around the world live with depression and other mental illnesses, yet many individuals are still afraid to talk about it. Aiming to reduce this stigma, our work with Black Dog will help to raise awareness around mental health and support their research.[/p][p]Cancer Research UK[/p][p]We will be supporting the life-changing work of Cancer Research UK, the world’s largest independent funder of research into cancer. Their vision is to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured[/p][p]InteRed[/p][p]By working with InteRed we will have the opportunity to change the lives of children and young adults from some of the poorest areas in Mexico. InteRed provides children with access to an education and training for young adults.[/p][p]Plastic Oceans'[/p][p]We are joining Plastic Oceans’ global movement to reduce plastic consumption and the waste which is dumped into our seas. Their work also seeks to change the world’s attitude towards plastic, looking at real alternatives to stop the pollution of our oceans.[/p][p]The route[/p][p]A team of 15 riders and 3 support crew from across the DUAL and Hyperion Group will be heading south from our new offces at One Creechurch Place to Portsmouth. After a quick break on the ferry across the English Channel to France, we head down the beautiful west coast of France, cutting right to tackle two days in the Pyrenees before dropping down to Barca! Simple...The days in the saddle look like this:[/p][p]Day 1 DUAL head offce to Portsmouth Harbour 136 km[/p][p]Day 2 St Malo Harbour to Ancenis 186 km[/p][p]Day 3 Ancenis to Saint-Jean d’angely 192 km[/p][p]Day 4 Saint-Jean d’angely to Bazas 210 km[/p][p]Day 5 Bazas to Lestelle-Betharram 171 km[/p][p]Day 6 Lestelle-Betharram to Arreau 106 km[/p][p]Day 7 Arreau to Llavorsi 123 km[/p][p]Day 8 Llavorsi to Cardona 141 km[/p][p]Day 9 Cardona to Barcelona 107 km[/p]
