Team story

[p]In November 2018 we started an Appeal to raise £18,000 to improve the Under 7’s playground at the KGV in Effingham and we asked for your help. Although we are now at over 170% of our target we still need help as the nature of the Appeal has changed and become more ambitious! We are not putting up a new target yet as we are currently costing plans for the playground but rest assured every penny given will be well spent!.[/p][p]Why we are doing our Appeal[/p][p]The Under 7’s playground was closed from August 2017 to February 2018 for safety reasons. The E.V.R.T trustees and the Parish Council were only able to do the essential work of replacing some of the flooring and the broken play tower, but the other play equipment is of similar age and the fencing is old and unsightly. The playground is tired looking and in need of modernisation and improvement. [/p][p]The original £18,000 target was to replace equipment and install new fencing. But it became clear that the playground needed extending to provide further play equipment especially for the younger ones aged 1 to 4 who find the existing super playtower a little challenging! We have since heard that the village will get nearly 300 new houses and so the playground will get even more use in the future.[/p][p]How we have raised Money So far[/p][p]On the 10th March we held a sponsored two mile Welly Walk around the KGV grounds, which was well attended by local families and raised lots of money. We were able also to consult parents about what they wanted in the playground and how they would like the Appeal funds spent. The organisers are really grateful to the children who attended, the volunteers who helped on the day and the Little Bookham & Effingham Preschool who helped us organise it.[/p][p]Since then we have had collection tins in local shops and businesses and asked everyone we could think of if they would donate. We have been so overwhelmed by peoples' generosity and are really grateful. Residents have given what they can afford and we have had some huge individual donations of £4 and £5k and churches and businesses have donated and been really generous too. We hope by the end of the autumn to have a brand new, shiny, extended playground for the children to enjoy.[/p][p]Contact the Organisers[/p][p]For information or any questions about the appeal please contact us at: Friendsofkgveffingham@gmail.com or see our Facebook page KGV Playground Appeal.[/p]
