Team story

[span=font-family: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; font-size: 10pt;]In August 2013 a team of 6 employees of KPMG’s Newcastle Office will nervously make their way to a beach near Dover wearing just regular swimming costumes, latex swimming caps and a pair of swim goggles with the intention of swimming to France!  [/span] [p][span=font-family: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; font-size: 10pt;]This is a distance of 22 miles however with the tides and the currents we will be swimming much further. The exact date of the swim will be set by the English weather and the tides and we will get the "final shout" just hours before we begin our crossing. Swim pace and tides will govern how long our swim will take but we expect each swimmer to complete at least 2 swim legs, each of which will take about 1 hour, during which they will cover about 1.5 miles or so (we hope).[/span] [/p][p][/p][p][span=font-family: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; font-size: 10pt;]The whole idea came from Paul Moreels who subsequently bullied the rest of the team into taking part and if they had only known then, what they know now it would have definitely been a solo swim by Paul. The cold temperature, lack of wetsuits, strong current, risk of jellyfish stings and sharing the water with giant container ships are only a few of the challenges the crossing will present![/span][/p][p][span=font-family: 'Calibri','sans-serif'; font-size: 10pt;]We are however, all absolutely committed to successfully completing the crossing to raise money for two local children’s charities and are busily preparing ourselves physically, if not mentally, for what lies ahead.[/span] [/p][p][/p]
