My story

[p]Thank you for supporting Liberty's Legacy's next exciting event - a private screening of Mamma Mia Here We Go Again at the Everyman Cinema, Gerrards Cross. It's sure to be a great night and we can't wait to see you there![/p][p]Liberty loved all musicals and Mamma Mia was one of her firm favourites - we were lucky enough to watch it together as a family on Broadway in New York back in January 2013 and have such great memories of her and our amazing trip there. I also have many fond memories of her singing her heart out to all the ABBA classics on our PlayStation SingStar that inevitably got dusted off every Christmas! so the sequel seemed liked the perfect choice for our next cinema event.[/p][p]For those of you that don't already know, we sadly lost Liberty in October last year after she fought a courageous battle with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare and very aggressive form of primary Bone Cancer. She had just celebrated her 14th birthday only 2 weeks before and our lives have been changed forever, she has left a gaping hole that cannot be filled.[/p][p]Throughout her treatment, Liberty shone brightly as an inspiration to so many with how bravely and valiantly she faced everything thrown at her, from gruelling chemotherapy, hair loss, chronic nausea and biopsies, to limb salvage surgeries and a stem cell transplant. She refused to let this cruel disease define her and the dazzling smile for which she was so well known and wicked sense of humour rarely faded, despite everything she had to endure - we really could not be more proud to call her our daughter.[/p][p]When Libs discovered the shocking news that despite everything she had been through, her cancer had spread and there was nothing further that could be done, her greatest wish was for no other young person or family to suffer and be ripped apart in the same way. She also did not want to be forgotten. And so within days of her gaining her wings on October 11th 2017, her idea for Liberty's Legacy was came to fruition, as per her wishes.[/p][p]Liberty's Legacy is a special tribute fund of the Bone Cancer Research Trust, dedicated to raising awareness and much needed funds for life saving research. All monies raised for Liberty's Legacy are ringfenced specifically for research into Ewing's, as was her wish. Already the funds we have raised in the first 10 months have had a direct impact, with BCRT announcing two Ewing's specific Research Projects so far this year. In May we were lucky enough to meet Professor Sue Burchill and her team at the Leeds Cancer Research Centre and are so impressed with the work that they are doing.[/p][p]Survival rates for Ewing's have not improved in over 30 years and the treatment protocol that Liberty received was not only designed for adults, but was decades old. With your help we urgently need to change this so that children like Liberty have a fighting chance - she had so much to offer and deserved so much more.[/p][p]We are determined to honour her Legacy and continue the fight that she so courageously started and continue to raise her funds in her name #UntilTheresACure.[/p][p]Thank you for reading and thank you for donating, together we can make a difference.[/p][p]To find out more about Liberty's Legacy, please follow us on Facebook @libertyslegacycharity, on Instagram @ Libertys_Legacy and on Twitter @LibertysLegacy3.[/p]
