My story

[p]On Sunday 3rd October, Wren and I will be undertaking a 26 mile hike in the Peak District, to accompany a friend who is undertaking the Virtual London Marathon as a 26.2 mile hike rather than a run. As I came to the challenge too late to register for the actual marathon event, I felt it would be a good chance to try and raise some money for a charity that I have been following for a while; the Cameron Bespolka Trust.[/p][p]I am also an Ordnance Survey Champion Ambassador and I will be completing this marathon as part of their National GetOutside Day (actually officially the Sunday before!) Wren and I love hiking, and we have undertaken long walks all over the country.[/p][p]Anyone who follows me will know I am passionate about the natural world and education, getting young people out in the fresh air & learning to love and value nature. Being outside is wonderful for both their physical health and mental well being.[/p][p]The Cameron Bespolka Trust is a charity that has been set up in Cameron's memory to inspire young people to love and appreciate animals, in particular birds, nature, and our environment. Cameron tragically died when he was just 16 years old and the trust believes that by experiencing the outdoors first hand, teenagers can connect with nature and make a difference to our planet. [/p][p]They aim to:[/p][p]Create new opportunities and programmes that involve conservation work, data collecting, research as well as understanding the impact of climate change. This knowledge can help them throughout their lives both personally or professionally[/p][p]Organise and sponsor events for teenagers to connect and appreciate the outdoors, especially those who may not have the means nor opportunity[/p][p]Work closely with various partners to reach as many teenagers as they can to add another dimension to their lives and well being[/p][p]Partner with schools and educational institutions to offer nature projects and programmes that are not available to them[/p][p]They have also partnered with the RSPB to create 'Cameron's Cottage', partnering with RSPB to renovate a derelict cottage deep in the middle of RSPB’s new reserve in the New Forest, Hampshire, Franchises Lodge, to create a unique residential educational facility. [/p][p]You can find out more about the wonderful work they are doing at: https://www.cameronbespolka.com/[/p][p]I would love to raise some money, to support the wonderful work the trust are doing, and to help more youngsters to get addicted to the wonderful natural world![/p]
