My story

[p]Hi, thanks for visiting my page. [/p][p]I have been lucky enough to get a place in the London Marathon 2017.  Whilst I have run a few marathons I have never run London and I am really excited about it.  Whilst running a marathon is a challenge in itself I decided to make things a little harder by revisiting my first ever ultramarathon too.  I first ran the Marathon des Sables in 2001 and it will be great to experience this amazing race again.  Now the dates are a little (!!) close together.......the Marathon des Sables has announced that this will be the longest ever route at 159.7 miles (plus a charity day at the end of about 10 miles) in stages between 9th and 15th April.  I fly home from the desert on Monday 17th April and the London Marathon is a mere 6 days later on Sunday 23rd April.  I hope to have washed all the sand away by the time I line up at the start line in London but it will be a real challenge for me as I may be a little broken.    To inspire me to keep putting one foot in front of the other I am raising money for Heads Together.  This is a campaign spearheaded by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry to take away the stigma associated with mental health issues.  Heads Together is a partnership between 8 inspring charities (for details of which charities, see below) which are working together to end the stigma around mental health and change the national conversation on mental health and wellbeing.  To find out more please visit their website www.headstogether.org.uk[/p][p]By the time I reach the finish line in London I will have raced 185.9 miles in 2 weeks and 1 day and completed a charity trek of about 10 miles.  I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.  Katherine xx[/p][p][span=font-size: 11pt; font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-fareast-font-family: Arial; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;]The Charities are: Young Minds, Mind, Anna Freud, Best Beginnings, Calm, Contact, Places 2 Be and The Mix[/span][/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. [/p]
