My story

[p]Nearly 2 years ago I went with some friends on a walking holiday in Germany not realising that it would lead to a whole new adventure. Two months later I went on a walking weekend in Kent & got bitten by a walking bug that has led to walking various part of several local long distance footpaths & 2 national trails walking over 2200 miles in the process since lockdown began in March 2020…[/p][p] [/p][p]Several friends over the past few months have suggested I do a walk for Charity & although I’ve considered it, however, wasn’t something I was overly keen on when the walking I’ve done has been for fun. If I did, it would have to be for a work & charity that I was passionate about & the walk would have to have some sort of challenge to it – a half marathon distance of 13 miles wasn’t going to cut it when my average walk is that long anyway! So when I heard that Paul along with the team a YFC Gloucestershire were planning on walking the Cotswold way in 5 days I had no hesitation in volunteering to walk some of the route with them. YFC is a charity I’m passionate about, because of the work they do with young people – mentoring, sharing the love of Jesus, discipleship, youth groups, school clubs, supporting young people in need & at risk in schools, prisons, churches & in the locality - seeing young people’s lives changed by Jesus. I’ve had the privilege of being part of a YFC team that provided summer holiday youth activities in a deprived area of London, as well as being a part of a local church team working alongside the Gloucestershire YFC team doing a week of youth ministry that has in the words of a young person at that time says had ‘a small but profound impact on his life & in his decision to follow Christ’.[/p][p]The Cotswold Way Walking Challenge (even if I am only doing one day) is also a challenge for me as the footpath is 102 miles long with plenty of hills to walk up & down with each day averaging out at 20ish miles - I have yet to break the 20 mile mark (even if I have come close a few times)…[/p][p] [/p][p]Please click on the ‘Miles From Home’ Link below to see exactly where the money raised by this walk is going & what it’s going to be used for.[/p]
