My story

[p]What started out as a fun experiment with empty gin bottles ended in a successful sales venture and raised more than £300 for Mission EmployAble.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Chorleywood resident Marina, 17, and her mum Kathy, wanted to do something personal to help Mission EmployAble and came up with the idea of making attractive flex-free lamps from recycled spirits bottles, to sell at the pop-up café at the Bluebell Walk weekend on May 2 and 3.[/p][p][br][/p][p]A quick email to friends of Marina's parents, many of whom, ahem, are clearly secret drinkers, yielded a supply of beautifully coloured and unusually shaped gin and vodka bottles – just perfect for decorative table lamps to create mood lighting indoors or for brightening up an evening barbecue.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Marina kept the price at £10 and hoped to sell ‘about six’ bottle lamps over the Bluebell Walk weekend, with all proceeds going to Mission EmployAble.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Much to her delight, she sold every single bottle, raising just over £300, and such was the demand on Sunday, that she had to make more lamps at home that evening to sell on Bank Holiday Monday, when she also found herself taking pre-paid orders for further lamps.[/p][p][br][/p][p]If you wish to help Marina with her fantastic initiative, we have opened up a donation site for her so that with your generosity, she can boost her donation to Mission EmployAble to £600.[/p]
