My story

[p]I have never run and I have never had any inclination to run. [/p][p]I cycle! [/p][p]Or so I said... but then it seems I am not one to turn down a challenge. [/p][p]I'm completing this ridiculous challenge to raise some money for these amazing charities and in memory of my mum. [/p][p]The Challenge[/p][p]Day 1: cycle London to Peterborough (about 100 miles)[/p][p]Day 2: cycle Peterborough to York (about 100 miles)[/p][p]Day 3: cycle York to Newcastle (also about 100 miles)[/p][p]Day 4: run the Great North Run, a half-marathon, on 5th September 2019[/p][p]I'll be doing this with a group of 40+ other crazy people, in the Race Against Tyne. https://www.raceagainsttyne.com/ [/p][p]The training[/p][p]It has started. I am now a proud owner of trainers and leggings, and have managed to put one foot in front of the other without falling over. Having now run 10km I now know how hard a half marathon is going to be, and that's without the thought of the three days of 100+ miles on the bike beforehand.[/p][p]I have only ever ridden 100 miles twice in my life, so three days in a row is going to be... interesting! [/p][p]The charities[/p][p]All three charities are all close to my heart, so I hope I'll be able to raise a lot to support them all.[/p][p]My mum was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease at 42. She made the best of her life with the challenges this brought her, but it wasn't easy. So the work the CPT do to research finding a cure and other things to make life easier living with this disease are to be commended. [/p][p]Sadly my mum, Cathy, was diagnosed with a rare form of Ovarian Cancer in 2017, called PPC (Primary Peritoneal Cancer). Ovacome helped provide her with much-needed support after diagnosis. Mum passed away in December 2018 and I'll be undertaking this challenge in her memory. She thought I was mad when I told her about it![/p][p]The last charity I'm raising money for is the MS Society and to support their wide ranging research in to this illness. MS, like Parkinson's makes daily life a challenge and has touched many friends, therefore I'd like to raise money to help provide more understanding and possible cures for this disease too.[/p]
