My story

[p]Hi! Way back in 2009 I viisited Malawi as  Primary school teacher. I fell in love with the country and the people and decided to return a year later to spend 4 months working in Chikale Primary School. During this visit I met a 13 year old homeless boy called Doud, in the capital city Lilongwe. He was extremely malnourished, he had a high HIV count and evidently there was no-one to look after him. With friends running a girls orphanage in the same area, it became apparent that there was a shortage of orphan care for boys. With a lot of help from friends, familiy and various charitable organisations, I returned a year later to look for a location for a proposed orphanage. However, during this visit it became apparent that a much simpler, more sustainable and cost-effective solution existed, one that could be implemented immediately - to place children in a foster environment with a local family. [/p][p]The project has since gone from strength to strength and we now care for 17 orphaned children across 3 families. We also do elderly outreach within the local villages and we are looking to extend our service and to provide a nuture / feeding programme for the many street children in Lilongwe. [/p][p]The beauty of this charity is that because it is ran entirely by volunteers, 100% of donations go directly to the cause. Last year it gained independent charty status and is now  recognised by the charity commission. [/p][p]Due to the flooding last year, Malawi is experiencing a huge food shortage right now. Many children are living without support and are struggling to find even a meal a day. We are desperate to extend our support - but we need your help to do it. [/p][p]I will be running this half-marathon with Hayley Crosby, Helen Thomas and Emanuele Ricci for Malawi Foster Care![/p][p]Thank you for your support - Your generousity is very much appreciated![/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
