My story

[p]After many false starts including illness, injury and a national pandemic... I am finally going to be running the virtual London Marathon on 4th october (providing nothing changes) as well as hoping to finally complete my 32 year ambition and run in London in October 2021!![/p][p]Thank you so much to all those friends and family who sponsored me last year- we raised £185 and your contribution has already been sent to Dementia UK. [/p][p]Dementia is an umbrella term used to describe a range of progressive neurological disorders, that is, conditions affecting the brain. There are over 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK today. Of these, approximately, 42,000 are people with young onset dementia. [/p][p]I am raising money for dementia UK in memory of two of my family members, my fantastic grandad who taught both my boys how to do a 'proper' handshake that they will never forget and held the best family bbqs in his amazing garden, a tradition we are keeping up. [/p][p]And my courageous, kind cousin, who suffered and lost his life to this awful disease far too young. Although he lived the majority of his life in Australia he spent a few years living in london and would always come and visit us, (and even had time to help decorate my lounge) and was there to celebrate many of our special events, memories of which we will always cherish.[/p][p]Raising money for Dementia UK will enable them to provide specialist advice to families living with dementia. They help improve the lives of those suffering when the world can become a very scary and confusing place as well as support those who are supporting them.[/p][p]I am also raising money for a 'wish list' which was "created to provide some comforts for children/young people and their families whilst receiving difficult/devastating treatment" on ward 27 at Leicester Royal Infirmary. This is the teenage cancer ward which has been treating and helping our lovely and amazing friend Mitchell fight non-hodgkin's lymphoma throughout this pandemic. He and his family have had to deal with grueling and difficult treatments without the usual face to face support of friends, family and the many charities which would have usually been there for them. The staff on Ward 27 have been an incredible support to them in every way imaginable, when covid-19 meant others couldn't.[/p][p]Please support me in raising as much money as we can to support these amazing, important and vital charities. [/p][p]Thank you so much,[/p][p]Katie xx[/p][p][br][/p]
