My story

[p]Thanks for visiting my fundraising page! I’ve always liked the idea of having a go at doing the London Marathon and with it being it’s 40th year and the fact I’ve now turned 40, it felt like it was time to have a go! unfortunately I’ve experienced a fair amount of injury over the past year, some which is ongoing, so completing the 26.2 miles may be quite a challenge for me![/p][p]For those who know me and my family, already know that my husband Scot has (or had) a rare disease called PSC. PSC is short for primary sclerosing cholangitis. PSC is a rare, immune-mediated liver disease that affects the bile ducts and liver. In PSC, the bile does not flow properly due to obstruction/narrowing in the bile ducts inside and/or outside the liver. [/p][p]This causes inflammation (cholangitis), which results in hardening and scarring (sclerosing) which makes the ducts get narrower. This means that the bile cannot drain out properly and it builds up. This can also lead to infection in the bile and ducts and the liver trying to heal itself by laying down scar tissue. Over time, this scar tissue in the liver can progress from mild scarring to moderate scarring and finally to cirrhosis, for some people. This may then result in the person needing a liver transplant, which Scot had in 2014. [/p][p]Unfortunately, PSC can return and this is something that has happened to friends we have. We have sadly lost a friend (and know of others) to this awful disease and have other friends that are severely unwell with it. So I hope I can raise as much as I can for PSC support UK. This amazing organisation provides valued support to families as well as helping fund critical research to finding effective PSC treatments. [/p][p][br][/p]
