My story

[p]Hi Everybody,[/p][p]Firstly, thank you for visiting our Virgin Money Giving page, we really appreciate you taking the time to visit us! [/p][p][br][/p][p]We have both decided to embark on a challenge of a lifetime to try and conquer Mt Kilimanjaro! [/p][p][br][/p][p]The reason we are choosing to take on this fantastic challenge is because in 2008 we lost our incredible nan to pancreatic cancer. She was an outstanding woman who would be there to help anybody, including looking after the grandkids and all of their friends! She was a very strong and determined woman and she impacted so many people’s lives just from her sheer generosity and kindness. Despite all the things she went through during this time, she never complained at all. Due to the nature of pancreatic cancer, it was unfortunately diagnosed too late for treatment to be effective, therefore, in the short space of 11 weeks from discovering the illness, we lost her. [/p][p][br][/p][p]Others we know have also been affected by pancreatic cancer and they also put up an amazing fight. Again, diagnosis is often too late to form a treatment plan. [/p][p][br][/p][p]Unfortunately as time goes on, more and more people are being effected by pancreatic cancer and suffering through its consequences. Pancreatic cancer is difficult to diagnose as the symptoms are not always obvious and therefore it is often left too late. [/p][p]Pancreatic cancer currently has a 5% survival rate (the lowest of all the common 22 cancers), yet just receives 3% of the cancer funding. With at least 27 people being diagnosed each day, changes have to happen. [/p][p][br][/p][p]Pancreatic Cancer Action work tirelessly to raise funds in order to invest in vital research, raise awareness of the signs and symptoms and providing support to everybody who has been directly affected by the disease and their family members. [/p][p][br][/p][p]Therefore, we have decided to climb Mt Kilimanjaro to help spread the word about pancreatic cancer, to help raise funds to help with research and to pay our respects to everybody who has been affected by it. No doubt it will challenge us physically and mentally (putting up with each other will be hard enough haha!), but it will be an experience we will never forget and all in the name of an incredible woman! We are happy to support an outstanding charity so that they are able to continue making a huge difference to peoples lives.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Over the next year and a half we are going to host various fundraisers. We would love everybody to join in with our journey so that together we can help to make a difference. All the fundraising events will be shown on various social media platforms and regular updates will be provided! [/p][p][br][/p][p]Thank you all in advance, now, onto our quest to conquer Kilimanjaro! [/p][p][br][/p][p]All for you nan, [/p][p]Kyle and Keri x [/p]
