My story

[p]The idea to run the London Marathon in aid of the MPS Society originally came from my closest friends Kelly & Andrew Mills, given their close links with the society with their daughter Penny, and it was their amazing testimony that formed the foundation of my application.[/p][p]Below is their story: [/p][p]In September 2018 our daughter Penny Mills was diagnosed with MPSIIIA. We were devastated at the time and we felt very alone not knowing how we were going to cope with with this rare condition. The MPS society were a beacon of light for us then and continue to be now. Our advocate Louise Cleary has helped us in so many ways; from emotional support to helping us navigate the minefield of DLA application. We wouldn’t be standing as strong today if it wasn’t for this ongoing support.[/p][p]Our close friend Kevin Abbott wishes to run the London Marathon in aid of the MPS society because he has been so moved by the support we have received. Kevin is an incredibly focused guy who really enjoys his fitness and a demanding physical challenge. Between ourselves and Kevin and his wife Michelle we are very confident we can easily achieve the fundraising target. We already have employers on board to assist by allowing us to put collection pots in our workplaces and some of them are even willing to fund match.[/p][p]In 2013 we sadly lost our little girl Milly. Kelly was 37 weeks pregnant when she suffered a placental abruption. After this Kevin was a great help with fundraising for Sands by running the Stafford half marathon.[/p][p]We will be able to ensure that Kevin’s effort will receive some media coverage. We already have had a lot of support from our local newspaper who have asked to keep them in the loop for future fundraising events. My wife Kelly is currently writing a blog about Penny’s journey, which we hope will raise awareness on MPS diseases. We will use this draw attention to Kevins progress. [/p][p]We hope you can support us in this fundraising effort by granting Kevin a place in the London Marathon. Providing us with support and holding our hand through the many appointments we have had to face and providing us with information that has helped us get extra support.[/p][p]This amazing charity provides help to over 1500 families a year across the UK! Without them this journey would be a lot more difficult.[/p]
