My story

[p]As many of you will know, on September 7th 2014, I was involved in a hit-and-run accident whereby I sustained a traumatic brain injury and complex facial fractures. This coincided with damage to my right eye, from an orbital fracture, which resulted in permanent loss of vision. I sustained life threatening injuries and was admitted to Kings College Hospital, via air ambulance where I was placed into an induced coma for two weeks.[/p][p] [/p][p]Following my hospitalisation period, I spent three months in Lewisham’s Frank Cooksey Rehabilitation Unit. They work together to help patients make the transition from hospital to home. Here the staff work together to help patients that are recovering from a severe neurological event, like mine, by providing intensive neuro-rehabilitation. Activities included physiotherapy, helping me to regain the ability to walk again, in conjunction with speech, language and occupational therapy etc.[/p][p] [/p][p]It’s been over 4 years from the date of my accident, and I want to raise money & funds for Headway SELNWK (South East London, North West Kent). On Saturday 25th May 2019, I am going to walk/climb Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the British Isles, to help and raise money and awareness for Headway SELNWK.[/p][p] [/p][p]Headway SELNWK is a charitable organisation providing support and services to individuals, family members and carers affected by an acquired brain injury across Bexley, Greenwich, Lewisham, Lambeth, Southwark, Bromley, Dartford, and KCC. Headway SELNWK operates a person centred service that understands the complexities and problems that may arise after injury particularly with emotions, cognition, memory, communication and behaviour.[/p][p] [/p][p]Headway SELNWK is affiliated to Headway UK. Headway UK is the brain injury association, the national charity that works to improve life after brain injury. Thank you for taking the time to read this, any donations you are willing to make to Headway SELNWK will be most appreciated.[/p][p][br][/p]
