My story

[p]Four years ago, I couldn’t run to the end of the road, I also had no idea that my son was about to be diagnosed with Autism. This April I will be running the London Marathon with the aim of raising funds for LinkAble, a charity that has supported my family and is close to all of our hearts. [/p][p]Willem, (pictured on my left), is a happy and charismatic little boy but my husband Jamie and I still have, like any parent, concern for his future as he gets older. We worry about social exclusion, his mental wellbeing and how independent he might be in the years to come. Having a charity such as LinkAble in our area gives us and many other families in Woking and Surrey peace of mind, that there is somewhere children and adults like Willem can turn to when they need support.[/p][p]For the last thirty years LinkAble has been supporting children and adults with learning disabilities in Woking and Surrey Heath. Helping them to achieve their full potential and experience the same opportunities as their peers. A learning disability can limit opportunities, life experiences and can cause social isolation for both children and adults. LinkAble aims to address this by offering service users of all ages the same opportunities to enjoy a full social life, try new activities, learn new skills, build their confidence and encourage independence.[/p][p]My motivation for running this marathon is very personal. I’m running for Willem who was diagnosed with autism four years ago aged six, his brother Harry who is an amazing carer and all the other children and adults with a learning disability that LinkAble supports. [/p][p]Please help me help LinkAble continue its vital work supporting our local community. Regardless of the amount, any donation will make a huge difference to a fantastic local charity that has supported my family and so many others affected by a learning disability. [/p][p]Thank you in advance for supporting and don’t forget you can increase your donation by 20% and boost my total by claiming Gift Aid if you are a UK tax payer.[/p][p]Kim xx[/p][p]To find out more about the work of LinkAble go to www.linkable.org.uk[/p]
