Team story

[p]Thanks for taking the time to visit our page and hopefully spare some change for a cause very close to our hearts.[/p][p]Rachel, Lucy and Laura, having never ridden quadbikes before, will be taking part in one of Europe’s toughest endurance quadbike races: The Hydro Garden Weston Beach Race, October 2018. This race is not only a competition of speed and skill, it’s a challenge of strength and stamina which separates the men from the…girls![/p][p]In September 2016, Nick Reeves was in a devastating car accident which left him with life-changing injuries, including a significant brain injury. To make matters worse, his cousin was also injured and his best friend tragically lost his life. After 3 nail-biting weeks spent in a coma at the King’s College Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Nick’s health made a miraculous U-turn and he eventually managed to breathe independently. He has now recovered so well that he’s also taking part in the same race this year. [/p][p]Were it not for the life-saving treatment from the staff at the King’s College ICU, Nick would not be with us today. Not only did they piece Nick back together, they also provided hisclosest family and friends with invaluable support.[/p][p]Two of Nick’s mates competed in the 2016 Weston Beach Race to raise money for the Air Ambulance. Not to be outdone by the boys, Laura, Lucy and Rachel stepped up and (despite everyone’s disbelief) also signed up for the challenge! [/p][p]They hope to raise some well-deserved funds for the King’s College Hospital:[/p][p]The hospital plans to create a new world-class Critical Care Centre, which will radically increase their capacity to treatpatients in near-fatal condition. Their dedicated team of doctors and nurses, who currently provide lifesaving care to 3,600 patients, will be able to support around 5,000 patients (and 15,000 relatives) each year, in a naturally lit, comforting and stimulating space which encourages patient recovery.[/p][p]https://supportkings.org.uk/get-involved/kings-critical-care-appeal/kings-critical-care-centre/[/p]
